This tweet has humbled me, quickly. Did you read it? Read it again. One more time.
I cannot get over the last phrase, "the radiance of his worth." I keep thinking, "what does this mean? How do I do that?" I decided to go to the Bible to get some assistance. Here are two places where the word "radiance" is used in the ESV:
Revelation 21: 9Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
Hebrews 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
From these verses, and definitions found elsewhere, "radiance" means beauty, light, brilliance. God's worth is brilliant and majestic. Worship, according to Piper, is telling God the brilliance of His worth.
But why do we need to tell God that? God doesn't need us to tell him that or anything else, but it "sets our minds on things above", and gives him glory, which is his #1 priority (Isaiah 42:8)!
Obviously, there's no wrong way to reflect back to God his worth, but I think this means remembering, recalling back what God has done in my life, how he has shown himself to be majestic, and what he has done and will do as shown in the Bible. Honestly, I need to do this more. I confess I spend WAY too much time complaining and thinking that I'm right.
Oh God, let my thoughts, actions and words, at their core, be reflections of your worth.
